JBSD Hinamatsuri (ひな祭りイベント）

The annual Hinamatsuri event, organized by JBSD, was held at DIA on March 3rd. Hinamatsuri, also called Girl’s Day, is a Japanese religious holiday celebrated on March 3rd of each year. The event featured various Japanese traditional displays and workshops for people to observe and experience the Japanese traditional culture. DIA was packed with people, and people seemed to have enjoyed exploring the Japanese culture. As a Japanese individual, I value the opportunity for people in the U.S. to explore it. At the same time, this was a great event for kids who lives in the U.S. as it is difficult to experience this kind of Japanese traditional event here in the U.S.

It has been a decade since the City of Detroit filed for chapter 9 bankruptcy in 2013. This year’s Hinamatsuri event was held under the theme of “Re-Birth”, which symbolizes the rapid growth of the Detroit economy after the bankruptcy.

This event will be held each year, so if you missed the one on last weekend, be sure to plan a visit next year!

2024年3月3日にデトロイト美術館にて、JBSD主催のひな祭りイベントが開催されました。雛段飾りや生け花などの展示の他に、折り紙などのワークショップも行われており沢山の人で賑わっていました。外国人の方はもとより日本を離れて暮らす日本人にとっても、このような形で日本の伝統文化の紹介と継承の機会を設けていただき大変ありがたいことと思いました。

2013年7月18日にデトロイトが180億ドルもの負債を抱え経済破綻を申請し、復興を目指してから今年で10年が経ちました。”Re-Bith”のテーマのもと行われたイベントでしたが、10年の時を経て近年すさまじい復興を遂げたデトロイトの益々の復興と繁栄を願っています。
