Founded in 1905 by Tokichi Okuno as a wholesaler for industrial chemicals. He began by being the first person to domestically manufacture baking soda in Japan. From that day to this day and for any foreseeable future Okuno is a privately held company operated by the Okuno family.

While Okuno was established in 1905 it entered the surface finishing market in 1950. The surface Finishing division has grown to be the strongest part of the company. This has led us to develop the chemicals platers will need in the future while always improving existing chemicals / processes. In this effort we try to make “Greener Chemicals” that are not only safer for the environment but also safer for the workers in the shop.
